About the Project
Held on September 8, 2025, WINGS for Women’s Health was carried out in collaboration with our partners to address a quiet but pressing gap in the camp: many of the girls and women at New Kuchingoro IDP Camp lacked even the most basic information about their own bodies and health. Displacement had not only disrupted access to healthcare; for many, it had also disrupted access to knowledge itself.
The Challenge
For girls growing up in the camp, and for the women raising them, conversations about health are often overshadowed by the more immediate demands of survival. Basic health information, the kind many take for granted, is frequently out of reach, leaving many women and girls uninformed about their own bodies, unsure of when or where to seek care, and without the language to advocate for their own health needs.
Objectives
The Work
In partnership with health professionals, WINGS reached out to girls and women across New Kuchingoro IDP Camp for a day dedicated to health education, testing, and counselling. Sessions covered essential information about the female body, health, and hygiene , knowledge many participants were encountering for the very first time. Alongside this, basic health tests were carried out, and counselling was made available for those who needed a listening ear or further guidance.
For many participants, it was more than a health outreach , it was a rare moment of being seen, heard, and cared for.
Impact
WINGS for Women’s Health reaffirmed a core belief driving the programme: that health knowledge is not a privilege, but a right, and that informed women and girls are empowered women and girls. Through this outreach, WINGS took another step toward its mission of restoring dignity, one conversation, one test, and one act of care at a time.
